African Elephants, Loxodonta africana
African elephants are the largest living land mammals, and they continue to grow throughout their long lives. This is one reason is it easy to spot the older animals -- they are larger than their counterparts of the same gender (males are generally larger than females). Thus, even though the disparity between this calf and his mother seems great now, it is quite possible that he will not only reach her size, but surpass her.
"Nature is art brought to life: often beautiful and inspiring, always fragile and in need of loving care" -- Jodi Gaylord
