Bald Eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus
This beautiful bald eagle suffered a gun shot wound in 2004. It is unknown if she was the victim of bad aim or poaching, but to the bird, it doesn't much matter. Her wing was injured, and though now healed, she still cannot fly higher than about five feet into the air. Her beak was also damaged by the bullet: the cracks are still visible. A bald eagle's beak, however, continues to grow throughout their lives. Slowly, it is healing itself, and eventually no damage will remain in the beak.
