Released 2010-06-05 Snowy Egret, Egretta thula Egrets, like many other birds, ruffle and expand their plumage when they feel threatened in an attempt to make themselves look bigger, and therefore more intimidating, to their opponent. This particular bird had a continuous, low-level competition running with another egret for what appeared to be a prime fishing spot, as the two kept chasing each other away from the same small eddy.
