Released 2009-10-03 Black Bear, Ursus americanus Black bears tend to live in forested areas. The trees not only provide the bears with a place to hide from other aggressive species, such as grizzly bears, and a bit of food in the form of berries, they also manage to serve the bears' needs even after the trees die. The rotting wood is home to many insects, grubs, and small mammals -- in bear lingo, food. Whatever is hiding in this log certainly has this bear's curiosity piqued.
