Released 2009-10-03 Common Morpho Butterfly, Morpho peleides The beautiful blue morpho butterfly, a native of Central and the northern regions of South America, has a short lifespan: only 115 days. It doesn't have time to hang around for nosy photographers! Pilots flying over the tropics of its home territory, however, have been known to see large gatherings of the brilliant butterflies atop the canopy, warming themselves in the sun. What a sight that must be.
