Released 2007-12-22 Female Grizzly Bear with Cubs, Ursus arctos horribilis Grizzly bear cubs spend from 2.5 to 3.5 years under the care of their mother, learning how to be a bear. These three were foraging in a small meadow with their mother, looking for roots, tubers, and edible grasses and plants. An unusually mild winter helped this sow and all three of her cubs maintain good health and weight throughout the leaner winter months. One cub is smaller than the other two, but is by no means malnourished. As is often the case with the "runt of the litter", it also showed the most personality of the three.
