The short growing season in northern climes means that everything must be in fast forward. Though the grasses and flowers surrounding the trees are still lush and blooming, the cones of the various pines and spruces must get on with the job of distributing their seeds. Autumn is just around the corner, and it brings with it markedly colder temperatures and the departure of many birds that aid in seed distribution.
