Leopard, Panthera pardus
A leopard's spots break up its outline in tall grasses and among tree branches, aiding in the animal's stealthy approach toward its prey. The leopard has simple spots on its face, similar to those of a cheetah, but the spots turn to rosettes on its back and flanks. These rosettes are empty, lacking the internal spots found in the rosettes of the oft-confused jaguar.
