Pond Cypress, Taxodium ascendens

The night-time illumination of this pond cypress by a single street lamp gives the tree, rising up out of the marshland of the Louisiana coastline, an almost other-worldly feel. The water, smooth as glass, could easily be mistaken for solid earth, while the direction of a gust of wind can be determined from the movements of the branches on the left side of the tree.
