Small Postman Butterfly, Heliconius erato
The Heliconius erato lives in tropical and subtropical forests in Central and South America, ranging from a rare appearance as far north as southern Texas to very common sightings in Brazil. Though endowed with the classic butterfly beauty while still, their flight patterns are somewhat jerky; they have been described as "inelegant" in flight. Inelegant for a butterfly, perhaps. After all, aren't all butterflies beautifully elegant by their very nature?
"Nature is art brought to life: often beautiful and inspiring, always fragile and in need of loving care" -- Jodi Gaylord
