Lioness, Panthera leo
Despite their reputation as King of the Beasts, most lions do not spend much of their time engaged in activities that seem very regal. Quite a bit of their time, in fact, is spent in various positions similar to this one -- asleep. Excluding man, they are the top of the food chain in their territories, and they seem quite aware of that. Frequently they resemble their (admittedly much smaller) cousins that so many of us have in our homes to such a great extent, it can be difficult to fight the urge to reach out and pet them -- for all of a nanosecond. Then, common sense kicks in, and you again realize how nice it is to have two functioning hands, and you decide to keep it that way
"Nature is art brought to life: often beautiful and inspiring, always fragile and in need of loving care" -- Jodi Gaylord
