Released 2007-12-22 Bighorn Sheep Ram, Ovis canadensis The signature characteristic of bighorn sheep, the thick, curved horns of the males can wiegh as much as 40 pounds. During the fall mating, or rutting, season, rams will use their horns to crash into each other, usually head to head, in an attempt to establish dominance and, therefore, mating rights. The tips of these impressive horns are often broken or "broomed" - evidence of previous battles.
