Connochaetes taurinus
Wildebeest, or gnus, are usually found in herds, sometimes very large herds numbering in the millions. They graze on grasses and other flora, often during long migrations that take them many hundreds of miles. They must cross dangerous, crocodile-infested rivers during these migrations, where they find themselves the featured special on the menu. It was no surprise then that when this fellow came across this lush swamp-like pond full of tasty plants -- and completely devoid of crocodiles -- he waded right in to enjoy a peaceful dinner of his own.
"Nature is art brought to life: often beautiful and inspiring, always fragile and in need of loving care" -- Jodi Gaylord
