Elk herd, Cervus elaphus
The hot springs in Yellowstone National Park are not only beautiful to look at, they also play a crucial role in the survival of many species of wildlife. Grazing animals, such as these elk, find grasses and other vegetation abundant near hot springs, and in the winter, heat from the springs keeps the snow levels down, allowing the animals easier access to their dinners.
"Nature is art brought to life: often beautiful and inspiring, always fragile and in need of loving care" -- Jodi Gaylord
