Green Sea Turtle, Chelonia mydas
Green sea turtles spend most of their time submerged in water, where they hunt, munch on marine plants, and even sleep. Their breath-holding ability is impressive: they can stay underwater for several hours while sleeping. Under normal activity levels, however, they must surface every four to five minutes to get a fresh gulp of air. And a gulp it is, too -- they are adept at rapidly exchanging the air in their lungs for new air, needing only a second or two to get another five minutes' worth of air.
"Nature is art brought to life: often beautiful and inspiring, always fragile and in need of loving care" -- Jodi Gaylord
