Papio anubis
The coloring of this baboon youngster reveals that it is nearing the age when it will leave the care of its mother. Baboons are born with very dark fur, which they replace with the olive-colored fur of the adults as they grow. If the adolescent is a female, she will remain in the troop into which she was born; if it is a male, he will be driven out, and will have to fight his way into another troop. In the meantime, this youngster still has time to groom its mother, and perhaps share a secret or two with her, as well.
"Nature is art brought to life: often beautiful and inspiring, always fragile and in need of loving care" -- Jodi Gaylord
