Released 2010-11-01 Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel, Callospermophilus lateralis Animals find the most ingenious of hiding places. When this ground squirrel wanted to disappear, it literally vanished into this crevice. It became utterly invisible, though I knew it was there. Only when it decided to find out whether or not I would offer it any food did it slowly resurface. Though it moved as though it had all the room in the world, the sight of it emerging from such a tight space struck me as quite humorous; visions of it trying to push the two slabs apart flooded my brain. The squirrel did not remain interested in me for very long, however. Once it discovered that it would get no food from our interaction, back into the depths of the crevice it went.
